Microsoft today released the first preview build for Windows 11. Windows Insiders have the option to download Windows 11 preview build 22000.51 now. You can access the new Start menu, multitasking and a revamped Microsoft Store through this preview. In contrast to the Windows 11 leaks, the official preview has an updated File Explorer. It replaces the ribbon by a command bar, making file management easier.
This preview contains the majority of the visual changes to Windows 11 that Microsoft announced last week. This build includes the new Start menu with its launcher-like, center-centered interface. It is also accompanied by rounded corners all over the OS, enhancements in volume-flyouts and the notification center. Windows 11 will have a parallax motion effect if your computer has an accelerometer.
This preview includes the new themes for Windows 11 and dark and light mode enhancements as well the brand new Widgets. Microsoft has added the new themes Glow and Captured Motion to Windows 11 with new Windows 11 sounds.
Two major Windows 11 features, however, are missing: Microsoft Teams integration (and Android Apps for Windows). These features are still being tested by Microsoft, but they will be made available in future preview builds.
Microsoft's Snap Layouts and Snap Groups are also included in the Windows 11 preview. These features allow for multitasking to be increased across multiple devices. These Snap features are better than many of the multitasking options Windows has offered over the years. However, they are easier to find and more efficient in multi-monitor situations.
Microsoft will also be updating Windows 11's Settings section. This preview build includes changes that make it easier for users to locate the settings they require. Sets now have an upper-left-hand navigation system that is consistent across the screen. This makes it easier to navigate between sections. Microsoft has introduced new "heroes", controls at the top Settings that allow quick access to settings and information for each team.
